Warren Square

Warren Square, not far off the beaten path, is a peaceful Square to visit, lined with Oak Trees. There are also historic homes to see on Warren Square.

Warren Square is located on Habersham Street. It isn’t a fancy square, it doesn’t have a statue or a fountain, but what it lacks in flair, it makes up for with charm. Aside from the ugly parking garage bordering Warren Square on one side, this is a very picturesque area of Savannah. We sometimes pass through Warren Square in the late afternoon, right before dark. You can usually find people who live in the surrounding blocks out playing with their pups or just relaxing on the benches in Warren Square.

The walkways in Warren Square

There is something about the pathways in Savannah that allow you to escape to a time when horses were the means of transportation and the streets were made of sand. Many of the walkways, especially in the Squares that dot the Historic District have large oak trees with Spanish Moss hanging freely. It is easy to imagine that you’re back in the 1800’s. The horse drawn carriages and historic houses/buildings help with that mental image. I guess this is part of Savannah’s charm.

The main sidewalks in the city offer little of this old-time’ charm. Usually it is touristy (is that a word) shops accompanied by the smell of horse piss. You have to get off the beaten path a bit to find these ‘trails’. Try the eastern part of town. Warren Square, along with Washington Square, are two of our favorites.
